Highlands Farm KC is owned and operated by Rachel and Michael Russell. We are both Kansas City born and raised and proud of our midwestern roots. We are both graduates of Ruskin High School and the University of Missouri. We’ve also both worked as teachers for more than 50 combined years in the Lee’s Summit School District. Rachel was an IB English teacher and speech & debate coach at Lee’s Summit North High School for nearly the first 30 years of the school’s history. Michael has taught at Lee’s Summit West, Lee’s Summit, and Lee’s Summit North High Schools for 23 years.
We named our farm Highlands Farm KC as a nod to our Kansas City pride and commitment to growing fresh, local produce for the Kansas City Metro area. Since the land we farm is on one of the highest-elevation ridges in western Missouri, and we both have a Celtic heritage, Highlands Farm KC seemed like a perfect name.
In 2022 we started selling at the Downtown Lee’s Summit Farmers Market. We are committed to growing delicious, fresh, and naturally grown food on our small farm.

Flowers on the farm
Definitely more photos of the farmers than is necessary.
See the farm in various seasons as we continue to grow our production
We grow both cut flowers for sale at the market as well as fields of native wildflowers for monarch butterflies, birds, and pollinators like honey bees
